"As responsable of the course Fashion and Materiality at the Master’s programme in Fashion Studies, I wanted to give the students the opportunity to visit and experience both fashion and luxury industry. Thanks to the great effort of ISEM in Madrid our fashion students had the chance to see closely the production process and the elaborate and intricate ideas behind the luxury label Loewe. On the other pole of this industry, we had the pleasure to learn about the principles and strategies of one of the largest fashion retail groups in the world, Inditex. These two experiences, completed by a very interesting workshop at ISEM enhanced our understanding of the producer’s conditions and the consumer’s behaviour”.
Our master's student, Rocío Garrido Rus, also gave us her take on the trip:
"Our experience as students at the Masters of Fashion Studies during the study trip organized in collaboration with ISEM has been fruitful and highly interesting. During our stay in Madrid we could get to the inside of two highly different and representative models of fashion companies: luxury brand Loewe and mass fashion company Inditex. Those two experiences have been really useful to understand the differences between two different approaches to fashion. The third part of our experience in Madrid was a study case-based workshop on e-commerce, which constitutes a great percentage of today’s fashion world. These three experiences have complemented our theoretical background in a magnificient way and have served us to connect our theorical background to the industry, as well as to understand that theory and practice go hand in hand."
Given the positive results of this trip, Dr Paula von Wachenfeldt hopes for a continuous collaboration, workshops and guided visits in the important fashion city of Madrid.
