“In his new book Fashion Work, critic and curator Jeppe Ugelvig tackles the fickle relationship between art and fashion through four genre-defying practices of the last 25 years: Bernadette Corporation, RUN (Susan Cianciolo), BLESS and DIS. Ugelvig’s comprehensive account connects a mythological 1990s generation of collaborative, DIY fashion producers in New York, Paris and Berlin to the digital and increasingly corporate systems of fashion of the 2010s, where aesthetic activities such as styling and creative directing have become ubiquitous. Employing curatorial, archival, and theoretical methodologies, Ugelvig’s multi-year research project examines how hybrid cultural producers operate at the edges of art and fashion systems and markets, and in the process, work to prototype new forms of aesthetic entrepreneurship in a post-Fordist age”
 

Bio

Jeppe Ugelvig (b. 1993) is a curator and cultural critic based in New York and Copenhagen. His research focuses on histories and theories of cultural production. Jeppe completed his undergraduate degree Communication, Curation, Criticism at Central Saint Martins in 2016, and his MA degree at the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College, in 2018. Jeppe’s writing has appeared in Frieze, ArtReview, Afterall, i-D, Spike, and Mousse, amongst many others. He is the former editor of DANSK Magazine and functions as the contributing editor of Wallet. Jeppe has staged exhibitions at Tai Kwun (Hong Kong), Hessel Museum (New York), Goethe Institute (Ramallah) and National Art Gallery (Copenhagen), and lectured at Central Saint Martins, NYU, and Funen Art Academy. He is currently lecturer in Fashion Studies at DIS Copenhagen.
