Abstract

“Re-creating the myth and the past in high-fashion design” is a semiotic analysis that focuses on several fashion collections of the 21st century from high-fashion brands such as Chanel, Dolce and Gabbana and Alexander McQueen, which have been inspired by myth, history and by such feelings as nostalgia and memories. Emphasis is placed on Western fashion history and particularly on the Classical Greece of c. 500- 323 BCE. This historic period is being explored based on its cultural context that has inspired modern designers to re-invent and revive the aura and the myth of this era in their collections.
