Title: Visual encounters: Reimagining visual reporting of refugee migration in Swedish news as human rights practice.

Abstract: In this study I explore conditions set by newspapers for audience to collectively receiving and interpreting visual reporting on refugee migration. By focusing on photojournalistic images published in four Swedish newspapers during the so-called “refugee crisis” in 2015, as well as on editorial and photojournalistic practices, I aim to understand how and to what extent visual reporting of refugee migration, through photographs and their evidentiary, affective and imaginative capacity, can engage audience in visual human rights practice.
