She is completing a book manuscript on Finnish television theatre (Televisio jota ei enää ole/Television that does not exist anymore) and editing a textbook Film och andra rörliga bilder. En Introduktion (Raster Förlag, forthcoming). She is currently giving talks and writing papers on “Rehabilitating Experience: Affects, Cinema and the Politics of Public Sphere”. Her recent publications include Performative Histories, Foundational Framings. Gender and Sexuality in Niskavuori Films, 1938-1984 (2003), Itsepäinen vietti, a collection of texts by Teresa de Lauretis in Finnish (2004) and “Do you remember Monrépos?: Melancholia, Modernity and Working-Class Masculinity in The Man Without a Past (Aki Kaurismäki 2002)” in Claire Thomsen (ed.) Northern Constellations. New Readings in Nordic Cinema (2006).

Koivunen is the co-director of Academy of Finland research project The Power of Culture in Producing Common Sense (POWCULT 2007-2010) and a member of the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Political Thought and Conceptual Change (Academy of Finland), The Politics of Philosophy and Gender (PPhG) Research Team 2006-2011. She is a member of the editorial board of National Bibliography II (Finnish Literature Society) and associated as a Docent with the universities of Helsinki and Tampere in Finland. In 2006-2007 she acted as the Professor of Media Culture at the University of Tampere.
