Publications include: Bildets oppløsning; Filmens bevegelse i teoretisk og historisk perspektiv (1996) on the technology of cinematic time, Jean Epstein: The Intelligence of a Machine (2001), and he has edited two volumes on cinema and the other arts: Film/Konst, Kairos vols. 9:1 and 9:2 (2004). He has contributed to a number of anthologies, For Ever Godard (eds. Michael Temple, James Williams, Michael Witt, 2004) and Color: A Reader (eds. Brian Price, Angela Delle Vacche, 2006). He is currently researching time-based media and the mnemotechnics of the archive (funded by Vetenskapsrådet), on the film theory of Jean Epstein and on Japanese cinema in the 1920s and 1930s. He has also organised international conferences, and was a visiting professor at the Seijo University of Tokyo in 2002 and in 2004/2005.
