The award is appointed by the Torsten Söderberg Foundation in cooperation with the Swedish Trade Federation and the Stockholm School of Economics, for outstanding theoretical or practical efforts which has contributed to the development within the area of distribution in a broad sense. The award is the largest of its kind in Sweden and has been awarded this year for the 25th time. The award is worth 500 000 SEK.

The statement of the jury reads: "Professor Klas Nyberg and Associate Professor Fredrik Sandgren are awarded Söderbergska Handelspriset 2013 for their efforts to illustrate the development of trade through history. They have, in a meritorious way made the story of trade industries significance. Their perspective on trade adds much to politics, economics, theory and practice. "

- The trade history gives the industry an identity that is important for the development and future of trade, says the CEO for the Swedish Trade Federation, Dag Klackenberg, who is also chairman of the jury for Söderbergska Handelspriset.

A prize ceremony and lecture was held on May 2, 2013 at the Stockholm School of Economics.
