IMS offer undergraduate, masters, and doctoral education in four areas: Cinema Studies, Journalism, Media and Communication Studies and Fashion Studies.

The Department of Media Studies (IMS) was founded in 2012 through a merger of the Department of Cinema Studies, the Department of Journalism, Media and Communication Studies (JMK), and the Centre for Fashion Studies.
JMK and the majority of IMS administration are located in Garnisonen while the Section for Cinema Studies and Fashion Studies are located in Filmhuset, the Film House.
The current (2019) budget for IMS is approximately SEK 950 million supporting 91 employees including 13 professors, 16 lecturers, 4 postdocs, 1 associate senior lecturer/assistant professor (us);16 other teaching and research staff (lecturers, researchers and projects assistants), 21 doctoral students and 20 administrative employees. Additionally, IMS hosts esteemed professors from around the world through our guest professorship programmes.
